Recently, the apartments where I live contracted some kind of arrangement to “save electricity” with these stupid fucking lights that turn off after 20 minutes without noticing a very obvious motion near it. I have three complaints about them in particular.
One, they are poorly placed and poorly designed. Their motion sensors don’t reach more than a couple feet at best and they usually are not usefully placed. So every evening when it’s dark out, I’m standing in the kitchen, and the light turns itself off to save electricity. The sensor is a few steps away and it’s very easy to fall or trip which I have when it left me in darkness.
The next problem with it is its inability to actually tell if something is in front of it. I have had to wave my hands around its ridiculously ineffective sensor for almost ten seconds before it responds.
They don’t work unless they sense motion. When it’s pitch black, they do not function rendering them useless. That is fucking dangerous, stupid and an example of how not all updates are upgrades. Why do these lights only turn on if there’s enough light in the room to detect motion?
No one should have to shine a light on their light. Environmentalism is not justification. Chances are most of the residents at these apartments were not impacting the environment adversely enough to justify any of this.
Everyone who was a part of that deal is either evil or ridiculously incompetent. The decision was made without consent of its residents. All of a sudden landlords have power when it comes to ruining people’s lives but squatters rights are still a thing.
